maybe if you had a monk that knew how to prot, instead of running around trying to powerheal through a group of HM ele's searing flames spike (or whatever it was) with HB, the sin wouldn't die so often. please refrain from posting in threads you know nothing about. it's obvious you're an ursan button masher that thinks HB>>>>>>>>>>>all. ursan had its uses but they are mostly gone now, and with with ursan pretty much dead, HB should be put to rest also.

@OP definitely go with WoH most of the time. coordinate your bar with the other monk in the group. there's no reason for both monks to bring PS, so take SB instead. btw, i'm a firm believer that SoA should be in almost every monk's bar. between SoA and Aegis Chains, you can prevent most physical damage from decimating your team.

hahaa, are you trying to be sarcastic? sins are rediculous, anyone whos played MS/DB can tell you that. HB on the other hand misses a huge portion of a monk's job. prot sames you a ton of energy. why would you want a full heal bar anyways. the only reason to ever take more than one heal is to cover recharges, they all do the same thing...

Hi All

Thanks for the advice, I have set up my bar as the following for the moment.

Word of Healing
Dwayna's Kiss
Aegis
Shield of Absorption
Mend Ailment
Cure Hex
Protective Spirit
Glyph of Lesser Energy

Unfortuantly as I am starting from the beginning on Phrophicies doing Normal mode missions first, dont think my monk is going to be doing to much healing for the first 6 or 7 missions, did try her out in factions, still cant get used to not killing stuff. Dont have any wepon sets yet, will get them further into the game.

Cheers

Mend Ailment -> Dismiss Condition. Drop Glyph for Patient Spirit, RoF, Guardian, etc.

Hi

Thanks for the advice..

Well I just failed miserably at being a Monk, decided to try The Great Northern Wall on Hardmode and I got served, I only have access to Henchmen and a lvl20 Mox at the moment as I want to Complete Missions both normal and hard on each continent before moving to the next. I survived the initial onsalught of devourers, took on the devourers at the bridge, took on the first two grauls, no problem, but when I hit those grauls with the ucolyte, they keep on running and i end up fighting 4 grauls 2 devourers and 2 ucolytes and I get owned cause of the healing of the ucolytes.. Arrrrrggg

First 2 attempts, me, Ranger, Warrior and, mage

Second 3 attempts, me, warrior , MOX and Healer..

All failed, lol

well if you want some good looking weapons, i suggest doing Togo's Story if you have the Bonus Mission Pack. almost every weapon from that story has a great looking skin and they are free also. you'll just have to buy the mods.

also go to gwen and/or NF and get the hero unlocks there before you try anything in HM. it makes things a lot easier.

Hi All

I am playing the following bar at the moment.

[Word of Healing]
[Dwayna's Kiss]
[Aegis]
[Shield Of Absorption]
[Dismiss Condition]
[Cure Hex]
[Protective Spirit]
[Reversal Of Fortune]

Its working OK, still trying to figure out the finer points of being a monk, unfortuantly when it comes to Hard Mode, I just dont cut it. I have tried numerous times on "The Great Northern Wall" and I just dont get anywhere. Whats the secret to hardmode, lol.

I now have the following heroes.

Tahlkora
Koss
Dunkoro
Melonni
Olias
M.O.X
Vekk
Ogden Stonehealer

Do I have a good enough selection of heroes to go up against Hardmode Phrophicies?

Cheers

I am not sure but vs backbreaker which was going against me maybe balanced stance.I am not big fan of hard mode only farming in it.I think the best way is to put life bond on Koss and stick him out there to do damage.

the secret to HM, for a monk, is a good team set up and, more importantly, protting. remember to take another hero with Aegis or take a Henchie who has it. aegis chaining relieves so much physical pressure, it isn't even funny. not having all that physical pressure should give you enough time to take out the monks and dangerous casters in enemy mobs before you have to worry about the melees and ranged attackers.

since you have olias, set him up as a Jagged bones Minion Bomber with either some rit channeling skill, i.e. splinter weapon, rit resto skills, i.e. protective was kaolai, life, mend body and soul, or monk prot skill, i.e. Aegis, PS, hex removers. i usually put infuse conditions and foul feast on my MM and then i don't have to worry about taking any condition remover myself. no matter how you do it, a minion wall also relieves pressure as AI tends to target minions just as much as party members.

also make sure your other heroes do damage. i almost never take a hero monk. i like to set up my heroes so they are the ones doing the damage and use a henchie for the second monk. in HM the key for the team is good dps and good protting. blind, daze, weakness, are all critical conditions that you should try fitting into your team. if you have to, lock your heroes onto a specific enemy so they only target him.

playing a monk with H/H in HM is much different than any other class. this is because you aren't picking a target most of the time. when you play a damage dealing character, the AI tends to stick to the same target you're attacking or casting at. when you're a monk, you don't do that very much. you have to remember to call targets for your H/H every now and then so they all get on the same page.

your build is pretty decent, just remember to use prot and don't just be a red-bar monk. with your current selection of heroes, i would probably take olias, vekk, and mox/melonni.

Olias, minion bomber:
Death Magic: 12+3+1
Soul Reaping: 9+1
Protection Prayers: 9

1. jagged bones
2. animate bone minions
3. death nova
4. blood of the master
5. foul feast
6. infuse condition
7. aegis
8. rez chant
(if you take FF and IC, you can drop condition remover from your bar.)

Vekk:
Earth Magic: 12+1+1
Energy storage: 10+1
Curses: 8

1. Unsteady ground
2. Earth attunement
3. Glow stone
4. Eruption
5. Enfeebling blood
6. ward against melee
7. Churning Earth
8. Rez Sig

Dervish:
Scythe Mastery: 12+1+1
Mysticism: 12+1
Wind Prayers: 3+1

1. Wounding Strike
2. Wild Blow
3. Mystic Sweep
4. Chilling Victory
5. Heart of Fury
6. Attacker's Insight
7. Faithful Intervention
8. Rez Sig

i'm not too sure on those attribute spreads. i think they are close to being accurate but i'm not sure. also make sure they have decent weapons. if you leave them with starter weapons and don't rune their armor with +health or +armor runes, you'll probably still get squished.

lol holy crap, i didn't mean for my post to be so long. well, hope it helped. let us know how it goes.

I don't recommend Aegis for 4-man missions, for two reasons: small party size, and correspondingly small groups of enemies. Aegis becomes particularly useless once you add a minion master/bomber to the equation. Single-target, low recharge prots are much better options in that situation.

The secret to HM for most people is simply taking a minion bomber - ignoring mission-specific setups, this one change makes the absolute biggest difference in difficulty. I would go so far as to say that the rest of your party rarely matters as long as you have a minion factory somewhere in the lineup. Take a look in the hero forum for other party ideas.

I was going to say the same thing about aegis in 4 man party but Burst best me to it.Yeah a good MM hero build would help out a lot plenty of devours in the beginning of the mission.

true. i was talking along the lines of a full team. i forgot he was attempting Great Northern Wall mission. Guardian and minions should be able to take care of most of the melee pressure.

Hi All

Thanks for all the good advice.. joshuarodger thanks for such a detailed reply, I will give it a go tonight. I also posted on the PVE section for Phrophicies, the answers were nearly all the same, either Sabway or Discord, I now have 2 Necros and I am working towards the third.

Will let you know how I get on with the Olias, Vekk and Melonni build. I do like M.O.X but he seems to be very slow in responding and moving.

Cheers

As exaplined all over guru and even here in this thread there are a few reasons, the main ones being:

As a monk its your job to keep people alive, if you have to res you didn't do it right. - that explains the "unsure of yourself" comment.

more importantly, if you have to stop for 4+ seconds to res the team has to last that long without a monk. If you take into account that one person already died then that shows your team is being overwhelmed and 4+ seconds without a monk could result in more deaths. Ressing as a monk in counter productive.

There is also the limitation of 8 skills. Monks have to take a generally large variety of skills from small prots, big prots, cond/hex removal, a heal or two, energy manage etc. This means your 8th slot could be used to take a skill that is far more useful in preventing deaths in the first place than a res.

With a good monk backline your team should have no troubnle with 1-2 hard resses and a res sig on the other 6-7 players.
